HRPA Awards of
Distinction
October is always an exciting issue of HR Professional for
us – our annual Law Issue, which coincides with the HR
Law Conference, has a finger on the pulse of the hot legal
issues of the day.
This year, unsurprisingly, cannabis made the cover.
As legalization finally stops looming over us and becomes the
brave new world for Canadian employers, there are perhaps more
questions than answers.
Some of those questions, we attempt to address in these pages.
What exactly should your workplace drug and alcohol policy say to
reflect the new reality? What should training entail? How should
medical cannabis provisions differ from recreational cannabis?
But some of the questions remain to be seen – and it’s quite pos-sible
that we’ll see some very interesting legal cases emerge as more
recreational cannabis users have easier access to the substance.
This issue isn’t just about marijuana woes, however – be sure to
check out our feature on the Pay Transparency Act, our piece on
international work permits and our piece on the legal implications
of contract frustration.
In between reading this month’s articles, I would urge you to
keep one more thing in mind. This month, the Human Resources
Professionals Association is accepting nominations for the HRPA
Awards of Distinction. These awards are a prestigious way to rec-ognize
an HR professional who embodies excellence in the field.
Nominations are simple and straightforward to submit – but
they’re only open until Oct. 31. Don’t let excellence go unrecog-nized
– submit a nomination today!
Happy reading,
Liz Bernier
