If there is one thing we can all agree
on, it’s that 2017 certainly wasn’t dull.
From endless headlines about sexu-al
harassment to high-profile leaders’
ill-considered Twitter postings to a fast-changing,
uncertain marketplace, we have
had plenty of dramatic moments to digest
this year – and plenty of opportunities to
consider how we as a profession want to
respond to these larger forces and trends
in the business landscape.
As this month’s cover story details, some
areas of HR practice have really stood out
this year. Certainly, many HR profession-als
have been reexamining policies and
procedures around workplace harassment
this year, considering how to create a more
effective investigations process – and most
importantly, how to encourage victims to
report instances of harassment, even if the
accused is in a position of power.
Mental health in the workplace also
continued as a key issue this year, as the
discussion continues to deepen around ac-commodation,
communication, openness,
support and trust around psychological
safety in the workplace. We have celebrated
