Welcome to your June issue of HR Professional – I hope
that you’re reading this from your HR Professional
mobile app while you sit in the sunshine and enjoy
some summer weather.
If you flip to our cover feature, you’ll read about institutional
knowledge transfer and HR’s critical role in facilitating that within
an organization. This article was particularly applicable to me
while I was reading it, as I prepare to go on maternity leave at
the end of this month. I personally found the tips and informa-tion
extremely helpful, and I hope that you do, too. As members
of your workforce retire, relocate, go on leaves, get promoted or
depart your organization for any reason, there must be a sys-tem
in place to preserve their necessary knowledge to avoid any
disruption in business continuity. How do you determine what
knowledge is important, who needs to learn it and where to even
start? Read the article on page 14 to learn more.
Our second feature article visits a big topic: artificial intelli-gence
and how HR can prepare for the workforce of the future.
With so many questions as to what the world of work will look
like in five, 10 or 15 years, many experts believe that people need to
“out-human” machines by cultivating skills that only humans can
possess. Read that article to find out more; it starts on page 20.
The last article I’ll point out for you here will excite our Star
Wars fans. With the newest release in the franchise, Solo: A Star
Wars Story, David Slovot, Ph.D., an analytics product manager at
Caliper, outlined some ways in which boardroom leaders can take
a pointer or two from the Rebel Leader. Whether you like the Star
Wars franchise or not, it’s an excellent article with some practical
takeaways, and you can find it on page 25.
This will be my last editor’s message for a few months, but you’re
being left in very capable hands. Liz Bernier, communications spe-cialist
at HRPA, will be taking over this page and will be assisted by
my co-worker, Lindsay Risto, an editor at Lester Communications,
in developing the content in each issue of HR Professional. For those
of you interested in contributing an article to HR Professional, send
your pitch to firstname.lastname@example.org; you can also find the
editorial calendar and submission guidelines here.
Remember to follow HR Professional on Twitter and LinkedIn,
and download the HR Professional mobile app for the easiest read-ing
experience. Have a safe and happy summer!
